Think Pink!

{Registered trademark of ZTA 2004}
As most of you already know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.  What you may not know is that I am a proud ZTA Alum that currently holds the position of Financial Advisor for my alma mater chapter, Iota Omicron.  Our philanthropy is breast cancer awareness, and we donate our time, money and efforts to the Susan G. Komen Foundation in hope that a cure will be found!  Each year creative and different fundraisers are held to make monetary donations to the Foundation.

The sorority began an association with the Susan G. Komen Foundation in 1992 as it's first sponsor of Race for the Cure.  ZTA has also been partnering with the NFL since the late 90's to promote awareness.  Other partnerships include Self Magazine, Yoplait, and Lifetime.  In 2004, Think Pink!® became a registered trademark of Zeta Tau Alpha, and so the campaigning began on campuses all over the nation. During the month of October, you can find sorority sisters, NFL fans, and others all over the US wearing Think Pink!® ribbons.

This campaign is near and dear to my heart because of all the survivors I know- my stepsister, her mom, my mom's boss...the list goes on and on.  Fortunately, because of Foundations such as Susan G. Komen, these women are still living and are cancer free!  Help spread the word to women and men all across the country.  Here are some factual tidbits that may get you thinking:

  • 70-80% of all diagnoses have no family history.
  • 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
  • Breast cancer is the leading cause of death in women between ages 40 and 55.
  • And don't think that breast cancer is sexist, it affects many men as well.

Help find a cure.
