Fat Tuesday

Laissez les bons temps rouler!

Happy Fat Tuesday!  Even though I had President's Day off yesterday, I am still stuck in the
"Monday" morning rut with a pile of work and a to-do list a mile long on my desk.
I would much rather be in NOLA celebrating the last day of Mardi Gras!  Don't you agree?!

For fun, here is a little Mardi Gras history for you...

Fat Tuesday is Mardi Gras, the festival New Orleans, Louisiana, is famous for.
"Gras" is French for fat and "Mardi" is French for Tuesday.

The annual festivities start on January 6, the Twelfth Night Feast of the Epiphany, when the
three kings are supposed to have visited the Christ Child, and build to a climax on Mardi Gras,
or Fat Tuesday, which always occurs on the day before Ash Wednesday.
The parties and parades will continue until Lent begins at the stroke of midnight on Tuesday.

Mardi Gras is a legal holiday in New Orleans. It is scheduled to occur 46 days before Easter.
Since the actual date Easter occurs on changes yearly, Mardi Gras can happen on any
Tuesday between February 3 and March 9.

For two centuries it has been an annual event in New Orleans, except during the two World Wars.

Ha, I think I'm going to live it up and have Five Guys for lunch! I take Fat Tuesday literally.

Are you from Nola? I did a mardi gras post today too! Since I am homesick, I posted pictures of all my past mardi gras!
And indeed it's a holiday. The whole southern part of the state shuts down from fri-wednesday!

The best thing about having Monday off, is that then you feel one day behind all week, so when it's the weekend you're stoked because it feels like Thursday!
Happy Fat Tuesday BACK at you!
